Holdups on tourists solved In March 1998 nine young men commited several holdups in the center of Frankfurt am Main. The victims were exclusivly Asian tourists around the famous "Frankfurter Römer". After a civilian police officer observed three suspects following a group of tourists, it was possible to find the hideout of the gang. There the police seized not only the loot but also an unexposed photographic film. The develloped pictures showed the three arrested men as well as six other members of the gang replaying details of their holdups. Hence the rest of the perpetrators were traced and arrested.

Piotrkow Trybunalsky is a small town in the center of Poland right between Warszaw and Lodz, of no particular tourist interest. In 1996 we were invited there for the first time to join an international artist meeting. The town appeared to be nothing special, in fact, but it offered us the possibility to get to know something profound about Poland today. Especially because we were "provided" with an excellent interpreter (Beata Rusek) and the freedom to stay for a few weeks, we could get an impression of everyday life in a city "off the beaten track" in an eastern country. The clearest image about what we experienced during that time appeared when we returned to Piotrkow the following year. Besides the extraordinay collection of sculptures from Middle Ages until 19th century he presented at the third floor the so called "Sentimental Museum". This special collection included objects of every-day-life who stand in a certain personal relation to the collector. Programs of Barcelona theatres, cigarettes, bicycles, umbrelllas etc. were presented as artifacts. Spoerri took this collection as a model for his idea of a "Musé e Sentimental" first presented in Paris 1977 and later in Cologne 1979, Berlin 1981 and Basilea 1989. The Jewish Museum's National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting collects television and radio pertaining to the Jewish experience including Seinfeld episodes, Manischewitz wine commercials, public television documentaries, and alternative programs that sometimes do not fit neatly into traditional genres. One of the most important examples of independent broadcasting in the collection is Harold's Bar Mitzvah (1977), a 30-minute video by Bart Friedman which was first shown at The Jewish Museum in the 1988 exhibition Time and Memory: Video Art and Identity. Narrating behind the camera, Friedman guides the viewer in three sections through the preparation and celebration of a coming-of-age ceremony. She recalls that she saw the glow of light of Dresden burning after the allied bombardment, from a distance of 100 kilometers away. Nowadays you can see the night-time lights of a metropolis like Los Angeles from a distance of more than 320 kilometers. At night in the countryside you can identify 2500 stars, whilst in a city you can distinguish about 250 stars, and from a metropolis you can only spot about 12 stars. A 48 pages thin booklet (11,8 x 13,2 cm), first printed in 1944 by the U.S. Government Printing Office, prepared by the Army Information Branch. Apart from informations about landscape and climate, the booklet gives further practical hints in respect to Health questions, all about Marriage facts and a very amusing Language Guide in the Annex. Nevertheless it is definetly not a tourist guide. The War Museum in Yong-San; Seoul deutsch, english

Park Chan-Kyong describes the War Museum in Yong-San / Seoul, South Korea, as an almost surrealistic place where more than 6000 original weapons, 110 combat planes, canons, warships, rockets and so on are presented. The structure of the collection is compared with the Encyclopaedia of Denis Diderot and Park Chan-Kyong shows that the two are very similar e.g. in respect to what is here called "anecdotal form" of using objects. The Principality of Sealand english

Sealand was founded as a sovereign Principality in 1967 in international waters, six miles off the eastern shores of Britain. The island fortess is conveniently situated from 65 to 100 miles from the coasts of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The official language of Sealand is English and the Sealand Dollar has a fixed exchange rate of one U.S. dollar. Passports and stamps have been in circulation since 1969, however, contrary to many misleading websites and news articles, Sealand passports are not for sale, and anyone offering such are selling forgeries. Within a radius of 500 miles of Sealand llive more than 200 million people who enjoy some of the highest standards of living in the world. Within a few weeks the citizens of Weimar prevented meetings and demonstrations of the neo-fascist party NPD and its Skinhead supporters. Up to 20.000 people (Weimar has only 60.000 inhabitants) took to the streets to show their anti-fascist position. A truly remarkable aspect of the protests were the unusual and creative form the demonstrations took over the weeks.

Der Stein vermittelte mir spontan die Idee, es könne sich hier um eine Kunstaktion handeln. Zu diesem Eindruck hat sicher der Ort beigetragen, an dem sich der Stein befand. Etwas deplaziert stand er in einem dämmrigen Seitenschiff des Doms, umgeben von einem Wandteppich, ein Geschenk einer Gemeinde aus Equador und den vielen Heiligen aus vergangen Jahrhunderten. ...
