Selforganized
groups and solo producers can publish their videos on public domain
compilations. public domain is a non-commercial project initiated
by the two artists Dorothee Albrecht and Astrid S. Klein, which compiles
videoworks out of various contexts and offers a possibility to show
them independently from video festivals and art shows. Furthermore
public domain is using structures within the selforganized as well
as within the institutionalized field and provides close contact to
other videogroups. Copyrights are not protected. Additionally to every
compilation you find short descriptions of the single contributions
in German and English language. Up to now two compilations are published,
containing 27 videoworks produced by artists, grafic-designers and
musicians. Public domain's aim is to reach a heterogeneous public
and to move within various scenes, with a selection of videos taken
from a regular production. That includes music videoclips, art productions,
lavishly done animations, conceptual works and simple super-8 films
that are refilmed on video. The contributions are produced for an
international (or at least English speaking) audience e.g. by added
subtitels. To have a broader discussion about the selection the two
artists plan to involve more people in this process. Apart from the
exchange programm with Local TV Vienna, Austria, and a project with
initiatives in Denmark, there are also plans to compile more than
one volume per year without reproducing them in a high number. They
will be simply shown on different occasions and copies will be made
only on demand. This will allow to offer an even greater variety of
works e.g. more visually, screen and projection orientated tapes for
raves and music events - compilations that deal with different situations
of presentation and forms of perception.
Selbstorganisierte
Gruppen und EinzelproduzentInnen können auf public domain ihre
Videos veröffentlichen. public domain bietet eine Möglichkeit
Videoproduktionen aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen auf einer Compilation
zusammengestellt, unabhängig von Festivals und Ausstellungen
zu zeigen. Außerdem stellt public domain den Kontakt zu anderen
Videogruppen her, nutzt Strukturen im selbstorganisierten und institutionalisierten
Bereich und versucht diese zu erweitern. Das Copyright der veröffentlichten
Videobeiträge wird von public domain nicht geschützt. Den
Compilations liegen kurze Inhaltsangaben der einzelnen Videos in Deutsch
und Englisch bei. Bisher sind zwei Videobänder erschienen, die
insgesamt 27 Beiträge enthalten von KünstlerInnen, GrafikerInnen,
Werbeleuten, Musikern. Public domain wurde von Künstlerinnen
gegründet, ist nicht kommerziell orientiert und veröffentlicht
Videos, die aus dem Musik-Videoclip-Bereich, aus der Videokunst oder
aus Zwischenbereichen kommen. Das reicht von aufwendigen Animationen,
konzeptuellen Videoarbeiten, Unterhaltung, bis zu einfachen Produktionen
mit Super-8 Kamera, die anschließend mit der Videokamera abgefilmt
wurden. Bisher wurde ein Austauschprogramm mit LOKAL TV Wien aufgebaut
und es ist ein gemeinsames Projekt mit Gruppen aus Dänemark in
Arbeit. In Zukunft wird es auch Sonderausgaben der Compilations geben,
die auf neue Präsentations- und Wahrnehmuungsformen zugeschnitten
werden und dann u.a. an verschiedenen Events im Musikbereich zu sehen
sein werden.
